I just discovered that the largest seashell mosaic was made in January 17, 2010 in Dubai.
- Length of the work is 44 feet (13.6 meters) and wide is 39 feet (12.9 meters) wide.
- Mosaic’s weight 3 747 pounds (1700 kilograms) and is 10 feet (3 meters) high.
The most interesting fact is the 60.000 shells which were used in the mosaic were collected by Dubai Police who scoured Jumeirah Beach in Dubai to find for the best specimens.
Can you imagine than 59 policeman and policewoman took part in gathering and classifying the seashells. I guess they liked the idea of spending time on a beach than patrolling the street. The great seashell mosaic was built in 32 days.
The mosaic resembled Dubai’s police logo, and was created to commemorate the fourth anniversary of the accession day of His Highness, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to be the ruler of Dubai.
This largest in the world seashell mosaic received Guinness Record.
